Are you the volunteer we are looking for?
Like the name suggests, this department makes the Bornem city centre completely ready for both the 13,000 hikers and the 130,000 visitors. Decorating the Bornem city centre is not possible without extensive consultation and sound cooperation with the municipality and law and order forces.Â
This department literally harbours a great deal of strength. They join forces to place the tent on the Kardinaal Cardijnplein, construct the Dodentocht Shop, drag around over 3 kilometres of barriers and over 200 metres of Heras fencing, place the banners, set up the parking zones … they are essentially responsible for decorating and setting up the Bornem city centre and the starting zone.Â
The Home Department staff also makes sure that the opening parade, which traditionally precedes the start, takes place smoothly. They also carry the Casket through the city centre.Â
