No 51st edition of 100 Km Dodentocht by Coronavirus

It has been in the air for a while but now there is a final decision of the National Security Council: no mass events until August 31, 2020. With 13,000 participants, 100Km Dodentocht also falls under this heading.

“The experts indicated from the start of the corona crisis that it is not wise to bring many people together, both from Belgium and from far beyond. Today, the National Security Council came with more clarity and decided not to allow mass events until August 31, 2020. That means for us as organizer of the 100Km Dodentocht that our 51st edition will not take place ”, Gunter Vergauwen, head coordinator 100Km Dodentocht, gives a first reaction.
After fifty successful editions in a row, it is the first time that no 100Km Dodentocht will be organized. “But that’s the only right decision. The health and safety of the walkers, our employees and volunteers is our top priority. Following the guidelines of the government and taking our responsibility to stop the virus, that’s what it’s all about now, ”adds chairman André De Clerck.
We are now putting the preparations behind the scenes on hold. This also means that registrations of May 16, 2020 will not take place and will be postponed to spring 2021. As an organization, we are already looking forward with great enthusiasm to the preparations for the next edition on August 13, 2021.
